What Will I Learn?
In-Depth VitalSleep Anti-Snoring Mouthpiece Review
The VitalSleep mouthpiece is a mandibular advancement device (MAD).
There are numerous other MADs on the market so we’re not looking at anything new.
However, don’t dismiss this anti-snoring device too quickly.
The basic design may be a little old hat, but Vital Sleep Anti-Snoring Mouthpiece boasts a few refinements that give it an edge on most similar devices.
So if you are shaking your head and saying, “It’s just another MAD”, let me pose a quick question.
Would you look at a Ferrari or a Lamborghini and say it’s “just another car”?
Of course you wouldn’t. Ferraris and Lamborghinis are a cut above most of the other cars you encounter on the road.
In a similar way, VitalSleep is superior to other MADs, yet it manages to be a little cheaper than some of the other options out there.
You may also be interested to learn the device has already helped more than 300,000 snorers to get their snoring under control.
It’s also FDA-cleared for treating snoring and doctor recommended.
Just another MAD? Not hardly. By the time you’ve finished reading this VitalSleep review, you’ll know all the reasons why.
What are Some Other Comparable Snoring Devices
What is comparable to VitalSleep? There are a few other stop snoring devices that are similar including: Airsnore, Zquiet, SleepTight and SnoreRX
What is the VitalSleep Mouthpiece?
As already mentioned at the beginning of this review, VitalSleep is a mandibular advancement device (MAD). Devices of this nature are also known by a number of other names:
A few of the other names you may hear include:
- Mandibular adjustment device
- Mandibular advancement splint (MAS)
- Anti-snoring gum shield
- Anti-snoring mouthguard
MAD-type anti-snoring devices have to be placed inside the mouth. They work by forcibly advancing the lower jaw.
One of the best things about the VitalSleep mouthpiece is the manufacturer offers a choice of two sizes. The larger option is for men while the smaller version works best for women.
Most of the companies selling MADs go with the approach one size fits all.
That may work well if you are selling woolly hats or stockings but we’re talking mouths and jaws here. It’s good that VitalSleep is offering a couple of options instead of just one.
MADs have been around along time. You used to only be able to get them via a dentist.
Each one was custom-built and designed to be a perfect fit for the mouth. There was no one size fits all mentality. That is something new.
If you want to, it’s still possible to get a MAD via your dentist. Unfortunately, the biggest problem is the price.
You could end up paying USD 2,000 or more. Hence the popularity of VitalSleep and other MADs you can buy for $100 or less and then set-up at home.
As is the norm with MADs you can set-up and fit at home, VitalSleep relies on a system known as boil and bite.
The Advantages of Boil and Bite
Apart from making it possible to buy a cheap MAD, boil and bite also enables you to have a fully-functioning device within just a few minutes of opening the box.
Getting a MAD from your dentist would be a much slower process.
The process begins with taking some teeth impressions. That doesn’t take long, but waiting for the dental technician to produce a fully-functioning MAD from the impressions will cause a delay.
If you are lucky, you may only have to wait a few days. If not it could be a week or more. Why would anyone want to pay more and wait when they can pay less and boil and bite?
How Does VitalSleep Anti-Snoring Mouthpiece Work?
VitalSleep holds the lower jaw forward. It achieves this by using the teeth. Moving the jaw forward increases airflow at the back of the throat. That’s how it stops you from snoring.
It doesn’t matter what position you sleep in or if your mouth is open or closed. Either way, by opening up the airway and improving breathing as it does, VitalSleep has gained an immense amount of respect as an anti-snoring aid.
At this point in the review, it’s probably a good idea if I explain the important role the teeth play in the process.
Like other MADs, VitalSleep has two trays that hold the teeth.
There’s one for the top set of teeth and one for the bottom. Each tray looks a little like a boxer’s gum shield.
Boil and bite makes it possible to ensure each tray is a perfect fit for the teeth it has to hold.
There are two kinds of boil and bite MAD:
- Fixed
- Adjustable
VitalSleep is an adjustable MAD.
That means instead of being a solid unit, it’s actually two units joined by a sliding mechanism that makes it possible to adjust the level of jaw advancement up to a maximum of 8 mm.
Although it’s possible to get satisfactory results from a fixed MAD, adjustable MADs tend to be superior. However, many adjustable MADs can only be moved to pre-set positions.
Again, VitalSleep has an extra ace in the hole because it comes with a special adjustment tool that makes it possible to advance the lower tray by any amount you want. There is no need to use pre-set positions.
How Repositioning the Jaw During Sleep Helps with Snoring
At this point, you may still be unsure how any of this can help you to stop snoring. Don’t worry. I’m going to explain.
The noise we call snoring happens when the tissues at the back of the throat vibrate.
This is partly because the tissues relax during sleep, but the tongue is a bigger culprit. It tends to relax and drop backward. This partially blocks the airway, causing the tissue to vibrate.
When VitalSleep is in the mouth and correctly adjusted, it pulls the jaw forward. The tongue is anchored to the flesh at the bottom of the mouth so it’s drawn forward as well.
This prevents the tongue from obstructing airflow and—BINGO!—there is no more snoring.
Initial Set-Up
VitalSleep for women is 10% smaller than VitalSleep for men. This allows it to be a comfortable fit for women’s smaller mouths. It’s important to order the correct size.
The two trays that hold the teeth are made from a special thermoplastic. Heat makes it soft.
The first step is to mold the plastic to the teeth. You do this by placing your new MAD in boiling water and leaving it there for 60 seconds.
Next, you have to remove the mad from the water, allow it to cool for 3 seconds, and then place it inside your mouth and bite into the soft plastic.
The second step is to set the level of lower jaw advancement by using the patented Accu-Adjust system.
You do this by using the special tool you get with the device. Simply turn the screws clockwise to move the jaw forward.
Who Makes VitalSleep Anti-Snoring Mouthpiece?
VitalSleep is manufactured in the USA by The Snore Reliever Company LLC. It’s based in New York City, has been trading since 2012, and is on a mission to help people who snore, along with their partners.
According to the VitalSleep website, its MAD is the result of a collaboration between a long-time snorer and a medical doctor.
As with many snorers, the individual in question suffered from chronic exhaustion and fatigue.
His dentist advised him to begin researching snoring mouthpieces. He did so and was discouraged by the poor options available.
Unable to find a suitable option he paid USD 3,000 for a custom-built MAD. That’s more than a lot of people can afford so he decided to come up with something better. VitalSleep is the result.
It’s a nice story. Is it true?
There’s no way to be certain, but the VitalSleep mouthpiece is certainly one of the best MADs on the market and the price is unusually low. The company is doing what it set out to do.

Device Classification
VitalSleep is a mandibular advancement device (MAD). Using devices of this nature is a tried and trusted way to control snoring.
Originally developed for treating obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), people have been using MADs since 1902. (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4372871/)
Does VitalSleep VitalSleep Anti-Snoring Mouthpiece Have Side Effects?
Mandibular advancement devices have a reputation for causing discomfort. However, adjustable options are less likely to present problems.
If you buy a fixed-style boil and bite MAD, you need to stretch your jaw forward by a sufficient amount while molding the plastic to your teeth.
If you do not, the MAD may fail to keep your airway open and you will continue to snore.
However, it’s hard to get the position just right and over advancing the jaw may cause you to wake up with pains in the jaw joint and/or a headache.
That’s not surprising because you are forcing your jaw to adopt an unnatural position. Furthermore, you are forcing it to maintain the position for several hours each night.
The Accu-Adjust technology incorporated into the VitalSleep mouthpiece makes it possible to select a lesser level of advancement for the first few nights and then gradually advance the jaw until the optimum position is achieved.
Taking things slowly in this way gives your jaw time to adapt to its new nighttime sleeping position.
It’s also important to be aware VitalSleep allows you to advance the lower jaw by up to 8 mm.
Many other adjustable MADs fail to provide this level of adjustment. In reality, you may not need to advance your jaw that far but it’s good to know the option is there.
If you are considering using a MAD, you also need to be aware their use requires strong front teeth.
If you have crowns, dental implants, gum disease, or any other dental issues, it’s a good idea to get your dentist’s approval before using a MAD.
Maintenance Requirements & Product Longevity
Other than keeping the device clean with a toothbrush and water, there are no maintenance requirements.
As far as durability goes, VitalSleep is guaranteed to provide a full year or more of use. That beats most other MADs hands down.
VitalSleep Anti-Snoring Mouthpiece Customer Reviews
VitalSleep has a lot of excellent customer reviews. Apart from praising the product’s ability to control snoring, many reviewers also have lots of good things to say about the level of customer service.
A minority of customers say their mouth feels a little sore when they first wake up but feel it’s a small price to pay for a good night’s sleep.
VitalSleep Summary
There are a few other excellent options available so it’s hard to claim VitalSleep is the best MAD on the market.
However, it’s such a high-quality device with such good customer reviews it’s certainly one of the best anti-snoring mouthguards – especially for women.
It’s nice to see a manufacturer that has broken free from the one size fits all mentality.
Women’s mouths are generally smaller than men’s mouths are but snoring is not a problem that’s exclusive to men. A lot of women snore, it’s only right they should have access to a suitably-sized anti-snoring device.
VitalSleep also boasts a number of other excellent features. The special Accu-Adjust mechanism is just one of them.
The generous 8mm adjustment facility is another. If snoring is ruining your sleep or that of your significant other/family, VitalSleep is one of the best snoring solutions your money can buy.
