DAWN™ Awards
To stimulate, acknowledge and reward outstanding efforts to improve health and quality of life for people with diabetes Novo Nordisk awards a grant of €15,000 to organizations or individuals whose projects and actions have helped address the people behind the disease. Projects should have demonstrably achieved one or more of the five DAWN goals (click to read more).
DAWN Award 2009
In 2009 the award was seeking to reward projects that significantly improves the health and quality of life of children and young people with diabetes and/or their families by addressing one of the five DAWN Youth priority areas. This year 31 applications from 17 countries were submitted. The award went to Dr. Sanjay Kalra, Bharti Hospital, India for his project on coping skills strategies for youth.
Dr. Sanjay Kalra was awarded for:
- Addressing a neglected, yet important aspect of diabetes care: cop-ing skills strategies for youth
- Utilising both a low cost, validated, easy-to-use diagnostic tool and interventional therapy
- Commitment to supporting careful evaluation and wider dissemination.

DAWN Award 2006
The criteria for the DAWN Award 2006 were that the initiatives should specifically address inequalities in health among disadvantaged populations with diabetes, such as low-income minorities, illiterate, ethnic minority populations and special needs populations such as elderly and severely ill. DAWN Award 2004
The applications were rated according to the alignment with the DAWN philosophy and the worldwide DAWN call to action as well as their ability to inspire others and propose practical approaches to reaching many people with diabetes in need of support.
