Further background
The DAWN Summit, organized by Novo Nordisk, was held under the auspices of the World Health Organization (WHO), The International Diabetes Federation (IDF), the European Society for the Study of Diabetes (EASD), the Federation of Nurses in Diabetes (FEND) and the Italian Diabetes Society.

This year, the focus was on moving from practice and research to large scale implementation. The event was held in conjunction with Therapeutic Patient Education (TPE) 2006, an international congress organised around patient-centred self-management education and long-term follow up strategies in diabetes and other chronic diseases.

DAWN Summit 2006 brought together keynote speakers, healthcare professionals, government representatives, people with diabetes and other stakeholders from all over the world. They had two full days to share best practices, explore new initiatives and create new partnerships around patient-centred diabetes care.

"As the DAWN movement gains momentum", says Soren Eik Skovlund, DAWN Manager, Novo Nordisk and Secretary of the DAWN Summit Organising Committee "it is growing exponentially and the sheer volume of new projects and approaches to patient-centred care is really inspiring. Anyone attended the summit came away with new ideas for addressing psychosocial issues in people with diabetes in their own region.”
