Historic DAWN agreement in Italy
DAWN Italy has signed an agreement with the Italian Ministry of Health to start the DAWN project in Italy in a short time. The aim of the project is to establish a new broad social understanding of the challenges involved in improving diabetes care.
The agreement signed by the Vice-Minister Domenico Di Virgilio, on behalf of the Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi and from the Vice-President of Novo Nordisk Lorenzo Mastromonaco, is a milestone in the partnership between the Ministry of Health and the pharmaceutical companies. In fact, it is the very first time that such an agreement is signed in Italy, which has been possible due to the ethical and social value of the DAWN Project.
The agreement was presented during the round table “Public/Private Partnership in the Health Area: investments and rules”, at the FORUM of the Italian Public Administration, organized by the Government in Rome on May 9 with the participation of representatives from the Italian Regions, the General Managers of the Pharmaceutical Companies and the representatives from the Ministry of Health.
Mrs. Pisanti from the Italian Ministry of Health announced the project at the 3rd International DAWN summit in April, 2006. Since then news of the project has appeared in a variety of Italian print and broadcast media.
