DAWN Youth is an integral part of Novo Nordisk's Changing Diabetes programme and a global initiative developed in partnership with the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), the International Society for Paediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD) and leading experts in childhood diabetes. DAWN Youth builds upon the global IDF Youth Charter 2007 as well as on the original DAWN Study from 2001.
The DAWN™ Youth programme comprises data collection from 2 surveys carried out in 2007: the Fact-finding study and the WebTalk.
The WebTalk involved 8 core countries (Brazil, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Japan, Holland, Spain and the US). It represents the attitudes wishes and needs of close to 7.000 interviews with health care professionals, parents and young people with diabetes.
The Fact-finding study aimed to benchmark national guidelines and strategies for children with diabetes. This study involved 24 countries (Brazil, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Germany, Greece, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, Holland, Poland, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, UK, US and Ukraine).
The DAWN™ Youth surveys generated new knowledge and insights of the unique challenges of childhood diabetes amongst governments, health organisations, professionals, families and policy makers.
The DAWN Youth programme aims to facilitate action and advocacy to improve the lives of young people with diabetes and their families with special focus on overcoming psychosocial barriers and the DAWN Youth Call to Action.
