10 years anniversary of DAWN - from side issue to guiding theme in practice
The 10 year anniversary of DAWN is approaching and for this occasion a large event was held in Stuttgart, Germany, with leading expert speakers on DAWN
The event was held at the annual congress of the German diabetes association (DDG). In spite of a large number of early morning symposia’s and numerous DDG working group sessions in parallel, the DAWN event was very well visited.
At the event Prof. Bernd Kulzer, Head of the Psychology Department of the Diabetes Center Mergentheim, presented his experience in incorporating DAWN and DAWN MIND in his centre, showing his results. In addition to Prof. Kulzer other prominent speakers were on the agenda such as Prof. Karin Lange, Dr. Med. Martin Lederle and Hansruedi Stahel as chair who gave insights in the communication part of Novo Nordisk Academy as well.
In order to make the DAWN™ results better known in the diabetologist community, the programme was focusing on four main themes aiming at:
a) summarizing the DAWN™ concept and the study results from a scientific point of view, b) showing the direct link of DAWN™ and the founding of Novo Nordisk Academy with a special education concept in 2001, c) demonstrating the benefits for diabetologists to work with patient questionnaires on a daily basis (and how to do it), and d) concluding with a crosslink to the assessment of psychosocial factors in children and adolescents.
Great interest in the DAWN dialogue tools
After the event many of the healthcare professionals showed a great interest in the DAWN tools at the Novo Nordisk exhibit. The German DAWN team had developed a DAWN™ brochure which included the DAWN dialogue tools such as WHO-5, PAID and ITAS including evaluation guidance as master for direct practical use.
